THE RESEARCH PLAN
Services include an analysis of the research problem and of the
information furnished by the client, with suggestions as to the research
strategy. The research plan will suggest the steps to be taken, and describe
the anticipated results.
THE RESEARCH REPORT
The research notes and/or research report will include a list of
the sources checked and the results of each search -- whether
positive or negative--with full citations as to the source. In
addition, suggestions are made as to what steps should be taken next.
RATES
$50 per hour plus expenses. Expenses typically include photocopies, postage,
microfilm rental and travel. The charge for travel expense is $30
per hour. There is no additional charge for regularly scheduled travel
within the Tulsa Metropolitan Area.
The client may request reports of findings at specified intervals,
between eight and twelve hours. By requesting the preparation of an
initial research report after eight hours of work, the client has an
opportunity to evaluate the quality of the work before authorizing additional
work, even when the overall project will require additional time.
Because of the time necessary for study and analysis as well as
thorough reporting of sources searched, most research projects involve as
many hours in study, analysis and preparation of the research report as
the number of hours spent in actual research.
HOW DO WE BEGIN?
Give me the details.
Tell me briefly what you know about your family's
history, and include the relationships of the individuals who
are important to the research project. Give me your overall goal
and tell me how this research project will help.
Define my objective.
Use a sentence or two to define my assignment.
This will help me know what you feel is the most important and so, will help
direct my research time. If you would like for me to watch for special details
during my research, let me know.
Tell me what you know.
Before I begin your project, I should study the
information you already have gathered, for two reasons:
- There may be some clues or other information which
would help make my research more effective.
- You will not want me to search for information already
known.
Please send photo copies of pertinent documents,
census schedules, pedigree charts and family group sheets,
along with sources of the pertinent family information which
you have already established.
Return the contract and deposit.
Read, complete, sign and return the genealogical research
contract with a deposit of $300. Feel free to request a contract by
mail, phone or fax. Or, send a letter of authorization with a deposit,
and I will return a letter of confirmation to you.
